OUR PURPOSE
Onnie’s House Inc. was established in February 2017. Our focus was initially to care for the homeless by providing handmade food and giving clothes to those in need by taking donations from local donors. After receiving feedback from people facing homeless on a daily basis, we were inspired to help on a level that we did not initially consider.
After the unfortunate shutdown of the shelter on Pine Street, the call was urgent for us to build a place for people in need. We aspire to provide shelter for our community. In addition to a shelter, we aspire to build a community of tiny homes that will offer affordable housing to working-class individuals and families. Our eco-friendly tiny homes will range between 1-3 bedrooms and bathrooms respectively. The homes will be fully furnished and equipped with kitchen appliances in addition to HVAC units. Onnie’s House Inc. will offer this assistance to those who meet specific qualifications. Each individual will be able to take advantage of our program for anywhere between 9-12 months. Families will be given the benefit of 12-16 months. Our goal is to transform families and individual’s lives in less than one year’s time. We will offer access to financial management courses, goal planning, job search, and credit review/repairs, at no cost to our program participants.
Onnie’s House Homeless Shelter will provide free housing to those in need of shelter while transitioning. Our goal is to be able to house no less than 500 people each night, from individuals to families. The shelter will be monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure the safety of everyone. We will also offer an array of mandatory programs to ensure growth and redirection.
We are striving to make this dream a reality. The city needs it, people need it, and we need it to fulfill our purpose. Please follow us on this journey and stay up to date with our progress.
